Benefits

Alternate Work Schedules

DCMA supports alternate work schedules that meet employee personal needs. Agency employees can take advantage of flexible hours within very generous bounds–for example, to accommodate a child's daycare schedule, or to avoid losing time to rush hour traffic. Arrival and departure times can vary, as can the time set aside for a lunch break. Telecommuting is often an option as well

It's all part of our commitment to pairing unparalleled quality on the job with a high level of personal satisfaction. For more information visit: http://www.opm.gov/oca/aws/

Competitive Salaries

The Defense Contract Management Agency has a single, overriding mission to which we are unswervingly devoted. We are committed to making sure that the absolute best equipment, supplies, support, and services in the world are provided to the absolute best fighting force in the world–the United States military.

This commitment to excellence extends to our employees. We are committed, not only to hiring the best, but to retaining them. To ensure that this happens, we offer, besides an outstanding level of Federal benefits, GS salaries that are competitive with what the private sector offers. We regard this as essential to remaining able to fulfill our mission, and as only fair to the men and women whose dedication and devotion we and the nation depend on.

Federal Employee Retirement System

What are the general requirements for retirement?

Under the Federal Employees’ Retirement System (FERS), you must have at least five years of creditable civilian service to be eligible for an annuity and be covered by the retirement system on the day you leave your job. Your Minimum Retirement Age (MRA) is based on the year in which you were born. If, for example, you were born before 1948, your MRA is 55. If you were born after 1969, your MRA is 57. You can retire as early as your MRA with as little as 10 years of service.

Flexible Spending Accounts

What is a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), and how can one help you? A Flexible Spending Account is an account you create with money from your salary before taxes are withheld. It saves you money by reducing the amount of income you’re paying taxes on–you are not paying taxes on money set aside for health and dependent care expenses.

An FSA lets you set as much as $5,000 aside for anticipated health and dependent care expenses. A Health Care FSA can cover everything from acupuncture treatment to a smoking cessation program. A Dependent Care FSA covers such matters as day care and housekeeper expenses. It’s important to remember that with an FSA, you use it or you lose it. You have a total of 14½ months to use your account from the effective date of enrollment. For more information visit: https://www.fsafeds.com/GEM

Flexible Work Environment

On the personal side, DCMA has made it a point to create an environment for employees that stresses a strong work / life balance. It’s true that nothing matters more to us than getting the job done right. Our nation’s security depends on ensuring our warfighters of weapons, systems, support, and services they can rely on. Fulfilling this mission is what we’re all about. It’s why we get up in the morning.

By the same token, DCMA remains committed to excellence as an employer. We support alternate work schedules that meet your personal needs. We have a very generous leave policy. And, as a Federal employee, you are assured of premier health, life, long-term insurance, and retirement plan options. We go to great lengths to attract the very best. We go to equally great lengths to retain you.

Life Insurance

Created by the Federal Government, the Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program is the largest group life insurance program in the world, covering over four million Federal employees and many family members.

Most Federal civilian employees (including DCMA employees) are eligible to enroll in the program. FEGLI provides basic group term life insurance. With it you get basic life, but it does not build up any cash value. Cost is shared between you and the government, with the government paying one-third of the total cost. Claims are processed and paid by the Office of Federal Employees’ Group Life Insurance (OFEGLI), a private entity that has a contract with the Federal Government. Long Term Care Insurance

As a Defense Contract Management Agency employee, you may participate in the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP), created especially for members of the Federal Family.

Sponsored by the Federal Government and backed by John Hancock Life & Health Insurance Company, the FLTCIP is designed to help protect enrollees against the high cost of long term care. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, at least 70 percent of people over the age of 65 will require some long term care at some point in their lives. Access to registered nurse and licensed social worker care are just two reasons why this Federal program may be the right choice for you. FLTCIP 2.0, a new plan introduced on October 1, 2009, offers enhanced features and benefits. For more information visit http://www.ltcfeds.com/

Paid Holidays, Vacations, and Leave Time

All DCMA employees are entitled to 10 paid holidays each year, including:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Dr. Martin Luther King’s Birthday
  • Presidents’ Birthday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Columbus Day
  • Veterans’ Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

DCMA employees earn annual leave (vacation) at rates depending on their length of service. For your first three years of full-time employment, you earn 104 hours of vacation a year. From 3 to 15 years of full-time service you earn 156 hours a year. Employees with more than 15 years of full-time service earn 208 hours a year. You are also allowed to accrue leave and carry 240 hours of leave into the next year. All full-time employees accrue sick leave at the rate of 4 hours per 2-week pay period.

Thrift Savings Plan

What is a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), and why would you want one? A Thrift Savings Plan is a retirement savings plan for civilians employed by the United States Government and members of the uniformed services. Its purpose is to provide retirement income. A TSP offers Federal employees the same type of savings and tax benefits as 401(k) plans.

How much you receive depends on how much you and DCMA have put in. The earlier you begin to contribute, the better. Regardless of whether you contribute, the government will, each pay period, put in an amount equal to 1% of your basic pay. If, in addition, you contribute up to 5% of your pay, the government will also match this. The total can really add up. For many employees, a TSP is an integral part of their retirement package.
