FORT LEE, Va. –
Eighteen performance improvement officers, also known as PIOs, graduated from the Defense Contract Management Agency’s one-week green belt training on May 25.
“The Lean Six Sigma green belt skillset of the Continuous Process Improvement program is a critical step in enhancing our contract management offices’ problem-solving capabilities,” said Jed Smith, a master black belt and the headquarters' PIO. “The PIO serves as a critical element of the CMO performance team by leveraging the combination of analytical abilities and team and project leadership to the performance assessment process and in driving targeted improvement efforts.
“Lean Six Sigma skills give our PIOs very powerful tools and techniques to improve CMO data collection, analysis and presentation, as well as additional proficiency at conducting, leading, or facilitating process improvement efforts,” he added.
The CPI office, which is a part of the Strategic Planning and Analysis Division, offers the Office of the Secretary of Defense’s sanctioned CPI training. Online training is available for employees who would like to get their yellow belt or project lead green belt certification. The advanced black belt training is only offered once a year at Fort Lee and cannot be taken online.
All of these courses in the Lean Six Sigma training series can be requested by employees by updating their training plans in the Talent Management System at https://emini11.dcma.mil/TMS/Homepage/Home.cfm. Additionally, tools, forms and other resources are available at the CPI 360 site.
