My DCMA: Cmdr. James Wong, executive officer

By Thomas Perry DCMA Public Affairs

ST. LOUIS, Nov. 4, 2016 — My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and diverse workforce and highlights what being a part of the national defense team means to them. Today we meet Navy Cmdr. James Wong.

My name is James Wong, and this is My DCMA. I am the executive officer at DCMA Boeing St. Louis.

My job duties include executing the commander’s intent and providing acquisition expertise to a business base dedicated to a diverse portfolio of Acquisition Category I and II programs valued at $113 billion. I am responsible for the command’s awards and recognition program, and I provide administrative oversight for military performance review.

I also recently assumed the leadership committee chair for the 2016 Gateway Combined Federal Campaign, and am responsible for the management, fundraising and accountability to reach out to 46,000 federal employees spanning 120 counties in three states in support of a prospective $2 million effort.

I have been a part of the DCMA team for two years, and I like working here because it has afforded me unique opportunities to continue supporting the warfighter in a post contract award capacity, while continuing my acquisition professional development.

The agency has also empowered me to pursue community outreach opportunities to advocate science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, education at local schools, public venues and an on-site STEM expo. To date, nearly 3,000 students and family members from 67 schools spanning seven states have been taught they too can become future innovators, industry professionals and defense leaders through our team’s efforts.

I am the independent eyes and ears for the Department of Defense serving on-site at Boeing Defense, Space and Security — a top three defense contractor.

I provide actionable acquisition insight to DoD by supporting a high-performance team consisting of 213 joint military and civilian personnel who execute contract administration, flight operations, and engineering surveillance to enable the final acceptance and delivery of world-class weapons systems to include the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, EA-18G Growler, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s F-15 Eagle.

DCMA is important to America’s warfighters because we enable the final acceptance and delivery of critical services, sustainment and systems to America’s armed forces and foreign military sales customers. In addition, we provide value via critical insight and support, earned value management, cost and pricing analysis, and contract close-out to our customers at various levels.
