My DCMA: Kim Poindexter, Mission Support Office chief

By Tonya Johnson DCMA Public Affairs

My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and diverse workforce and highlights what being a part of the national defense team means to them. Today we meet Kim Poindexter.

My name is Kim Poindexter, and this is My DCMA.

I am the Mission Support Office chief at DCMA Garden City, New York.

I am the principal advisor to the contract management office’s director and deputy director regarding internal controls, budget, training, personnel, customer service, performance improvement and policies. I also coordinate internal reviews, ensure audit compliance, manage security and safety programs, supervise MSO staff, oversee the CMO’s facilities and resources, and resolve complex problems on a daily basis.

I have been a part of the DCMA team for more than 32 years, starting as an intern and holding several other positions such as quality assurance specialist, management analyst, foreign military sales country manager, and contract operations supervisor for the Space and Missile Systems Division in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

I like working at DCMA because of the feeling of accomplishment it gives me to know that I am contributing to the defense of our country by helping to ensure the acquisition process works efficiently and effectively to provide combat logistical support to our military commands around the world. This job is very rewarding, challenging, enlightening and educational. It continues to provide me with opportunities and the necessary tools to make a difference.

I am the independent eyes and ears for the Department of Defense because I support the people who support the customers with hands-on leadership, which is instrumental in leading our CMO toward significant accomplishments.

I provide actionable insight to DoD by working very well with others and establishing customer alliances with senior level management throughout the world such as embassies, international organizations, Office of the Secretary of Defense, headquarters’ facilities, military branches and contractors, just to name a few.

DCMA is important to America’s warfighters because it is the organization which expedites the transit of supplies required to successfully complete the mission used to protect and defend our country and help American allies throughout the world. I am proud to be a member of the DCMA combat logistical support team.
