HOUSTON –
Defense Contract Management Agency International personnel assigned here recently conducted their first indoor Walk for Wellness 5K at The Galleria mall. The OCONUS Contracts Group, which focuses on handling contracts from outside the continental United States, had nine employees participate during this event.
“Previous years' 5K walks were held in city parks during the heat of the day,” said Jean Dacones, a management analyst for the Houston OCONUS group. “Completing the walk indoors minimized the threat of heat exposure and facilitated a safe environment.”
Dacones planned and coordinated the 2018 event, which consisted of walking around the perimeter of the mall. Dacones coordinated with mall security and remained conscientious of the well-being of participants from the start to finish of the walk.
“Her work doesn’t stop there,” said Johanna Akinfenwa, contracts director of the OCONUS group. “Ms. Dacones is the kind of employee that helps make the work environment for the whole team very positive.”
Dacones has led several other events that brings the group together and is known to make a difference to the team.
“The outstanding effort Ms. Dacones puts into this organization is noticed by her supervisor and her coworkers,” said Akinfenwa. “It is truly an honor to work with a team that focuses on meeting the mission requirements and also cares about their colleagues.”
Dacones has been with the agency for 20 years. She serves as the office's facilities and vehicles manager, and is the government purchase card holder. She acts as the liaison between the mission partners located in the Federal Reserve Building and with the DCMA team.
“This kind of dedication goes beyond the expectations of finding creative ways to encourage participation of all team members,” Akinfenwa said. “The team did it again with a successful Walk to Wellness 5K in 2018.”
