Palmdale employees recruit at local VA center

By DCMA Palmdale

Defense Contract Management Agency employees here recently partnered with the Antelope Valley Veterans Affairs Outpatient Clinic to conduct a job recruiting event. Dustin Stober, DCMA Palmdale quality assurance supervisor, led the May 10 effort, supported by five other members of his office.

“It was great getting out with the Palmdale team to participate in the VA event, said Stober. “About half of DCMA’s workforce are veterans, so we knew there were a lot of potential future employees there, and this would be a good way to introduce them to what we do.”

The agency’s mission was promoted to over 175 veterans from all branches during the six-hour event. Multiple local employers, as well as a multitude of veteran service organizations, participated in the Veterans Recruiting Event. The DCMA Palmdale team also took the initiative to collaborate with attending VA, Salvation Army and local Los Angeles County organizations to share information for future recruitment efforts.

DCMA flyers and job awareness literature and handouts were provided to attending veterans and their families. These informed job-seekers about agency opportunities in quality assurance, contact administration, cost and pricing, property management, information technology, engineering and in the agency’s industrial specialist functional role. Veterans and VA staff representatives expressed their appreciation to DCMA for being part of the recruiting event and for the mission that DCMA performs.

The interested and experienced job seekers ranged from software engineers to recent or upcoming high school graduates, many of whom did not know about the different non-profit and government programs that assist with employment. It was the first time most had heard of DCMA, and the agency team was thanked repeated for their time and for introducing the job seekers to opportunities in the federal government.

The agency’s participation in the Veterans Recruiting Event supports goal 5 of the DCMA Strategic Plan, which is to enhance and strengthen the skills, readiness, and effectiveness of the Total Workforce.
