My DCMA: Heather Andersen, contract administrator

By Justin Zaun DCMA Garden City

My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and diverse workforce and highlights what being a part of the national defense team means to them. Today we meet Heather Andersen, contract administrator.

I am Heather Andersen, and this is “My DCMA.”

I am a contract administrator at DCMA Garden City. I joined the agency team almost 11 years ago as a quality assurance specialist before transitioning into an industrial specialist role, and I recently transferred to the Contracts group. As I move into this new position, I realize there is knowledge to be gained within every level of DCMA. I am a firm believer in learning from experience and expanding my horizon to become a more versatile employee.

I also serve as the chairperson for DCMA Garden City’s Employee Activities Committee, where my team and I manage social events to boost morale and promote camaraderie. We organize annual events such as picnics and holiday parties.

I have always cherished my time at DCMA because I undoubtedly believe in our mission, which is to support those who support us — the warfighter. Throughout my childhood, my family moved from state-to-state with my father, who is a retired Marine. Years later, my brother followed in his footsteps and joined the Marine Corps, so what we do at DCMA affects me personally.

DCMA is pivotal to America’s warfighters because we serve as their eyes and ears. All of our operations immediately impact those who have boots on the ground. DCMA works to support those who protect the country daily. We are determined to deliver a successful product, promptly, to ensure everyone who serves our country can do so effectively.

In the immediate future, my career goals include gaining more knowledge in my new career field. Eventually, I aspire to become a supervisor and progress through the chain of command. It is noticeable that there is tremendous growth potential in DCMA, and I aim to take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way.

Recently, I was selected to be a part of DCMA’s Emerging Leaders Program, an initiative designed to shape and prepare future leaders of DCMA. I’m ecstatic about this chance to obtain a skillset that will benefit me in my pursuit of leadership roles within DCMA.

Personally, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, especially with my first nephew. I have family members in several states, so I travel a lot to see them. My passion is to travel to new cities and explore new cultures around the world. I enjoy reading and spending all the time I can at the beach.

The DCMA Garden City office is located in an amazing area, which is about 30 minutes from New York City and 30 minutes from the ocean. In addition, our office is filled with employees from all over the country, and it’s enjoyable to learn from each other and share our experiences.
