My DCMA: Laray Deveaux, senior aircraft operations specialist

By Tonya Johnson DCMA Public Affairs

My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and diverse workforce and highlights what being a part of the national defense team means to them. Today we meet Laray Deveaux.

My name is Laray Deveaux, and this is “My DCMA.”

I am a senior aircraft operations specialist at DCMA headquarters.

My job duties include the development of policy and conducting of training for contract management offices and contractor operations engaged in aircraft production, maintenance, modification and flight operations. Additionally, I conduct aircraft operations inspections ensuring CMO and contractor compliance with established guidelines.

I have been a part of the DCMA team for five years. I have had the privilege of serving in two capacities — one as the aforementioned senior aircraft operations specialist and also as a military reservist.

I like working at DCMA because it allows me to constructively engage in two areas that I am passionate about — aviation and support of our warfighter. These two facets have been a feature of my entire professional career. I enlisted in the Air Force right out of high school and was trained as an aircraft electrical systems specialist. I completed 32 years of military service, while parlaying my military training into a civilian career and working at a broad and diverse range of flight operation sites such as John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York and serving in Afghanistan.

DCMA is important to America’s warfighters because we are a critical line of defense to ensure that they get the best product enabling them to complete their mission and return to their families at the end of the day. Before my tenure with DCMA, I was the benefactor of DCMA’s oversight, and was grateful that there was an external organization ensuring that the equipment I relied on daily was assessed and safeguarded up to par.

My favorite hobbies include personal travel and mentoring. I envision taking an RV trip across the United States one day.

My future career goals include pursuing a Senior Executive Service path.

Something unique about me is that with my family name hailing from Nassau, Bahamas, I share the surname of Bahamian loyalist and sometime called “Bahamian Liberator,” Andrew Deveaux, Jr.

Some of the great things about working at my location include an extremely professional and committed group of co-workers. Our team in Aircraft Operations is innovative, principled, and forward-leaning, clearly ready to do whatever it takes to support the CMO’s and contractors throughout the aircraft operation enterprise as well as the military services and external customers we interface with.
