Eastern Region hosts ribbon-cutting ceremony at Hanscom AFB

By Amanda Harris and Cade Muckle DCMA Boston

The Defense Contract Management Agency Eastern Region, DCMA Boston and other mission partners participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony here Aug. 28.

Navy Capt. Brett Stevens, Eastern Region commander, and Navy Capt. Fred Dini, DCMA Boston commander, hosted the ceremony in which Navy Vice Adm. David Lewis, DCMA director, attended and spoke to employees and guests. Lewis told employees the move from the Barnes Building in downtown Boston to the Air Force base was an initiative to make sure team members were in a safer and more secure environment. Approximately 200 people attended the event.

Stevens said planning for the move began in 2015, after it was decided that relocation was in the best interest of the Department of Defense.

“On this beautiful August day, we gather together to celebrate the successful completion of this four-year, $24 million relocation and renovation project, which is one of DCMA’s largest to date,” he said. “This ceremony publicly recognizes the incredible efforts of those involved in this project, from planning and construction to administration and logistics. Everyone worked together to make this a success.”

Stevens said leaders chose Building 1108 as the best location to meet employees’ needs.

“The move to Hanscom Air Force Base improves our work environment and increases our access to a wide variety of support infrastructure provided by the 66th Air Base Group, the host unit at Hanscom Air Force Base,” he said. “We’re proud to call this our new home and we look forward to continuing our world-class support to the joint warfighter.”

Dini said that VIP attendance at the ceremony sent a clear message to the DCMA team.

“The 66th Air Base Group and the senior leaders from our fellow tenant commands at Hanscom Air Force Base have welcomed us with open arms, and for that we are grateful,” explained Dini. “The fact that we were also joined by former and retired DCMA Boston and Eastern Region commanders for this ribbon-cutting ceremony is a testament to the consistent long-term commitment it took to make this move a reality, the significance of this occasion, and the meaning that a job with DCMA has brought to so many lives.”

After the ceremony, Lewis held an all-hands meeting and answered employees’ questions on a variety of topics.
