My DCMA: Anglea James, program manager

By Elizabeth Szoke DCMA Public Affairs

My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and diverse workforce and highlights what being a part of the national defense team means to them. Today, Anglea James shares her story.

I am a program manager within the agency’s Information Technology Directorate located here. My job duties include management of cost, schedule, performance and risk for a program called Modernization and Analytics Initiative. I collaborate with team members and other program managers across the agency to plan and execute DCMA modernization within the guidance of the Chief Information Officer and other organization senior leaders.

I have been a part of the DCMA team for five years and spent over three in the Financial and Business Operations Directorate as a financial management analyst for the Defense Agencies Initiative Team. I also served as the lead program analyst for Foreign Military Sales.

I like working at DCMA because no single day is the same. There are always new challenges to solve and we provide key support to advancing the national security, international partnerships, and humanitarian and domestic policy interests of our great nation. Now that's a good day!

DCMA is important to America's warfighters because we provide Contract Administration Services to the entire Department of Defense and partner organizations. It is remarkable that our agency was called upon to support the nation even in the midst of COVID-19. I know we will continue to support pandemic efforts nationally and internationally, as well as continue our support to national security. Being able to continue to serve my country as a DCMA government civilian is an honor.

I've seen the agency consistently striving to be better and succeeding at it. From implementing new manuals and acquisition processes to taking care of its people during turbulent times, this agency is doing everything well and gets better every day.

As we celebrated our 20th anniversary last year, I am most excited to see the opportunities that the agency has to modernize its legacy applications and infrastructure to provide better IT support to our contract management offices across the globe. We've been doing a lot with less resources, but we have a unique opportunity to combine the innovation in our workforce with technology to improve our business processes.

My goals in 2021 are to gain more professional development, sustain a work-life-balance and continue collaborating across directorate and regional staffs as we strive towards modernization. Looking past 2021, I want to continuing working with the great team here at DCMA and move into positions where I can have a positive impact towards mission success.

Some of the great things about working at my location includes proximity to great opportunities for outdoor activities like biking, going to the beach or hiking as well as excellent schools for the kids

My favorite hobbies include attending great music events and festivals domestic and abroad, which I look forward to doing again after we overcome the pandemic. My hobbies reflect the aspect of me that is unique — I am from one of the great American cities: New Orleans. It’s so full of unique culture, great people and cuisine.

20 years ago, I was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia as a First Lieutenant in the Army Logistics Corps.
