Communication Navigation: Network of managers boost agency ‘comms’

By DCMA Communication IPT

In a global organization that annually manages more than $4.5 trillion in contracts, a simple question can turn into an inquisition: “Where do I find the answer?”

After more than a year of team member and organizational survey-driven work, Defense Contract Management Agency’s Communication Integrated Product Team developed a simple answer: Contact your designated communication manager (login required).

Communication managers, or CMs, serve as the primary point of contact for their component or command regarding the management, distribution, and storage locations for all modes of communication to include written, recorded audio, electronic and SharePoint. While they are not Section 508 accessibility experts, they will direct employees to the Section 508 Program Management Office (login required), which serves as the Agency’s primary point of contact on Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 compliance.

The CMs strive to identify and to present opportunities for consistent messaging and to enhance the organizational team member experience up, down and across the organization.

Their primary goal is to assist employees in their search for information, such as a published tasking memos, director videos, policy coordination, info memos and other official communications and, while they are often not content experts on perspective communications, the managers are experts on how and where to locate it.
