GRAHAM, Ky. –
My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and dedicated workforce and highlights what being part of the national defense team means to them. Today, Joshua Morgan shares his story.
My name is Joshua Morgan, and this is “My DCMA.”
I am a quality assurance specialist at DCMA Lexington in Kentucky. I am a resident QAS at Ensign-Bickford Aerospace & Defense in Graham, Kentucky. My overall job duties include providing risk assessment and surveillance by witnessing critical lot acceptance testing on explosive products. I perform contract receipt and review data to analyze and perform various risk assessments. I then use that information to plan surveillance. I also conduct process evaluations, audit critical safety items, and review and analyze important manufacturing processes to make sure the contractor is meeting contractual requirements.
I have been a part of the DCMA team for one year. I like working at DCMA because I ensure our warfighters receive a quality and reliable product to assist them in completing their mission without having to worry if the product in their hands will work.
Some of the great things about working at my location include familiarity with the product. I have been working in explosives’ manufacturing for over 20 years. I know the product, and on this job, I get to know more people who work in this industry, including civilian and military personnel. I make sure the contractor meets certain standards with the products, even as the customer changes. In my previous career, I was the final quality checkpoint for every product the company made. I was afraid to change jobs because I didn’t know whether the person taking my place would hold the same standards I did. But the great thing about working at DCMA is that I get to oversee and verify the same quality standards are upheld across many changes in personnel and products.
DCMA is important to America’s warfighters because they deserve to receive the highest quality products to complete their mission and return home safely to see their families.
My goal this year is to continue to learn my job and get to know the team more. My future career goals include continuing to ensure that quality products are getting in our warfighter’s hands. This is vital to me. I want the warfighter to receive a product that works because that is my top priority. I could not sleep at night knowing I let something slip by, therefore, jeopardizing a warfighter’s mission or life. They have a hard enough job. It is important to me they see their families again.
My favorite hobbies include spending time with my wife, traveling and photography.
Something unique about me is that I prioritize my family above everything else. I believe family is the key to happiness. I also keep in mind the warfighters’ families my job can impact. That is why I take my position so seriously. The products made here can directly affect a warfighter’s family if not made properly.
