My DCMA: Ben Engelberg, QAS

My DCMA showcases the Defense Contract Management Agency’s experienced and diverse workforce and highlights what being a part of the national defense team means to them. Today, Ben Engelberg shares his story.

My name is Ben Engelberg, and this is “My DCMA.”

I am a quality assurance specialist at DCMA Aircraft Integrated Maintenance Operations Greenville, South Carolina.

My job duties include performing tasks associated with the administration of the quality assurance provisions of aviation manufacturing, maintenance, and modification contracts by designing, implementing, and maintaining a risk-based surveillance program and assessment plan.

I identify opportunities for process improvements through an analysis of process measurement data. I serve as a member of a multi-functional technical team responsible for implementing the overall quality program in support of government acquisitions at multiple supplier facilities.

I also ensure contractor compliance with all of the requirements related to a variety of aircraft for our customers located throughout the world. I perform audits and monitor surveillance of contractors’ processes to ensure our customers’ contractual requirements are met. I investigate and provide data on customer complaints or concerns regarding a contractor’s quality performance and processes, which impacts user satisfaction. In addition, I provide technical support to other employees at DCMA AIMO Greenville by assisting in the analysis of contract-related issues to determine the best course of action to support the contractors and customers.

I have been a part of the DCMA team for four years. I like working at DCMA because it is an organization that provides products to warfighters. I take that responsibility seriously. As a quality assurance specialist, I take pride in knowing I have done my part to deliver safe aircraft to our customers. The aircraft that have gone through our oversight process are used, in many cases, in war zones where the safety of our warfighters is key. That is a big responsibility and one that I am grateful to be a part of. My job is to ensure aircraft meet contractual requirements, and I absolutely love this job because I am a part of ensuring military pilots have safe aircraft.

One of the great things about working at DCMA AIMO Greenville is interacting with knowledgeable civilian and military personnel. I also enjoy working with aircraft contracts because they present new challenges regularly, which keeps the job interesting.

DCMA is important to America’s warfighters because we do our part in supporting the armed forces by ensuring they have safe and reliable products to complete their mission and keep Americans safe from foreign and domestic enemies.

As the agency continues to evolve after recently celebrating its 22nd anniversary, I am excited to be a part of the process that ensures our warfighters are safe by making sure our defense contractors provide quality products. The agency has changed since I started working for it in 2018. Some of the changes over the years include that we have adapted to new ways to complete some of our mission requirements without being on-site due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We have also changed the way we present our surveillance plans and data analysis to an online process that provides more detailed oversite.

My team goals for this year include continuing to help the contractors we work with deliver safe and quality products to our warfighters. My future career goals include continuing to support DCMA as a QAS and providing guidance and training to new quality assurance specialists.

My favorite hobbies include spending the day at the lake on my boat with my family, motorcycle riding and horseback riding. Something unique about me is I like to try exciting things. Over the years, I have tried bull riding on three occasions and participated in the demolition derby pit crew on multiple occasions. I actually participated in a derby race once, which was exciting. I also enjoy parasailing, white water rafting and skydiving.
